Season 1, Episode 2
As they guys get ready to head their separate ways out of town, Mary Travis's father-in-law, Judge Oren Travis, arrives on the stagecoach in time to witness a murder. Since the town sheriff has fled, he tries to get one of the guys to accept the job and winds up with JD as the new sheriff. Buck hangs around to keep an eye on JD, Ezra is arrested, and the others stay when things get dangerous. Robert Vaughn guest stars.
Chris: Did he just call me cowboy, JD?
JD: I think he did, Mr. Larabee.
Ezra: At least once.
Josiah: He hates that.
Ezra: Well, son, now that we are free of that curmudgeon, you man effect my emancipation.
JD: What?
Ezra: Let me out.
